Important News

The Goldfields Track travels through some of central Victoria’s most beautiful landscapes. It is a natural track and that means it can be affected by the course of mother nature, and is subject to special activities to help keep the area safe.

This page is designed to keep you informed of activity taking place to maintain the track and surrounding areas that may impact your Goldfields Track experience. Please note, while we do our best to keep this page up-to-date, there are times when incidents happen and land managers (such as Parks Victoria) need to act quickly. If you come across any areas of concerns, track closures or maintenance needs that are not documented on this page, please send us a note at info@goldfieldstrack.com.au so we can work with the relevant land managers to address the issue.

Thank you, and we hope you have a fantastic time on the Goldfields Track.

Hepburn Regional Park closures

Due to the October flooding rains some of the Goldfields Track is closed

Hepburn Regional Park closures – section from Sailors Falls (Guidebook map 15, point 23) all the way through to Argyle Springs (at the Hepburn Springs Reserve Carpark) – so essentially the entire Tipperary Track. Parks Victoria has advised it will take some time to assess and repair the damage. Please DO NOT try to access the track at this time.

The alternative route at this time, is to travel through the Dayhesford township and rejoin the track behind the Springs Reserve Carpark.

Creswick Regional Park – various sections of the park are closed which impact parts of the Goldfields Track.

Vaughan Springs – on the Dry DIggings Track is closed.

Many of the river/creek crossings on the Dry Diggings and Leanganook Track sections may also be under water as the flood waters move through the river systems. These crossings will be dangerous for quite some time. Please take care and keep out of any flooded sections.

Keep up to date on the relevant page on the Parks Victoria website regarding flood and storm affected parks

Forest works – Wallaby Track

A section of the Goldfields Track on the Wombat State Forest, between Mollongghip and the Wombat Station is closed due to ongoing clean up works as a result of the flood event in 2021. Unfortunately the forest management works are taking much longer than everyone hoped, including the land manager, DELWP. You CANNOT travel through this section at this time, and will need to find alternative routes through this area. We apologise for this ongoing closure but the damage in the area was extensive and other weather events hampered clean up and remediation works.

If you are looking at a Guidebook, the area undergoing works is on maps 13 and 14. From points 15 to 18. If you refer to the Guidebook alternative tracks and local roads are shown to help you avoid this area.

Planned burns

It’s autumn and that means planned burns. Before heading out on the Goldfields Track be sure to check for any planned burns on the section(s) you will be travelling on.

Go to the Forest Fire Management website for the most up to date information. You can type in the name of the park or area you are travelling through. https://plannedburns.ffm.vic.gov.au/
