Welcome to Emu Creek and the Goldfields Track

Djaara (Dja Dja Wurrung People) welcome you to Emu Creek which is located on Djandak, the traditional lands and waterways of Djaara, who have been a part of this cultural landscape for countless generations.

The Goldfields Track and the Country it passes through is dotted with tangible (visible) signs of human ingenuity. Some of these are still able to be seen in the landscape and along the waterways it passes. There are ancient fish traps and rock wells along rivers and creeks, as well as scarred trees still standing, where bark was harvested to make coolamons and canoes. Ancient stone arrangements throughout the landscape tell creation stories and point to the stars. The Coliban Channel and other remnant water harvesting infrastructure from the gold rush remains, as do ruins of early colonial housing. Different people have been using a range of ingenious methods to live and prosper along these waterways for many thousands of years.

Acknowledgement of Country
